Hammontree & Associates, Ltd. was hired by the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) to improve the Walnut Avenue transit corridor, in accordance with SARTA and the City of Canton guidelines to upgrade intersections and traffic signals, improve pedestrian facilities, add bicycle lanes, transit shelter, bus pull-offs and aesthetic streetscaping. This project marks Ohio’s first “Contraflow” bike lane and Stark County’s first dedicated bike lane.
This project received the “Great Lakes Region Project of the Year for Projects under $3 Million” in October 2014 from the American Society of Highway Engineers. This project also received in 2014, “Outstanding Highway Project under $3 million” from the American Society of Highway Engineers and an “Honor Award” from the American Council of Engineering Companies Ohio.
